Rakesh Roshan is producing a film to start in July 2008 that will feature Hrithik in a never-before avatar. “It’s an action thriller with a strong love story at its heart. Anurag Basu, whom both I and Hrithik think very highly of, is directing the film for us,” reveals Rakesh Roshan a week before year-end, thereby putting an end to all wild speculation about the seriousness of Hrithik’s knee injury.

Anurag Basu, who is directing Hrithik Roshan in an action-romance, wants a brand new leading lady opposite the star.
‘Hrithik and his father are non-interfering people. An added bonus for doing this yet-untitled film is that Hrithik’s uncle Rajesh Roshan is setting the score. I have always been his big fan.’
“It’ll have plenty of thrills but it won’t be completely action-oriented. It’s more of a romantic thriller with dark shades to Hrithik’s character ,” he promises.

“I’d love to work with Sonam, but not on this project. The role doesn’t do justice to her. We’re looking at someone from abroad, someone Latin American or Brazilian. So, yeah, in that sense this would be my first international project,” said Hrithik.
Basu confirms that the role is quite bold.
“We’ve looked at many names, known and new in Bollywood. But that ‘it’ factor eludes us. I’m getting quite jittery. The girl’s role is extremely bold. Actually, we’ve decided to cast someone international, preferably Brazilian, because that’s the personality and profile of the leading lady in my film.”

The film, meanwhile, is a romantic thriller based both in India and the USA. “We went on a recce in and around Los Angeles and Las Vegas and liked some locations. We’ll zero in on them shortly,” he says, adding that it’s a pukka commercial film, which will be made with a global audience in mind. The film will go on the floors in June and release early next year.
Hrithik Roshan will be paired with sultry latino actress Barbara Mori in Anurag Basu’s Next by Rakesh Roshan’s Filmkraft Productions. Kangana Ranaut too features in the film.
Filming is expected to start in May 2008.

Says Anurag, “It’s a different movie and a bold one which will be entirely shot in New Mexico, Las Vegas and LA. The film is romantic and Hrithik’s character is completely different from what he has played in the past. He is more flamboyant and will be romancing both the Latin actress and Kangana. His character is like a kite which wanders here and there but always flies high.”
Hrithik Roshan’s next film Kites will have a budget of 60 crore which will be a record for a hindi film. So far the most expensive film is Jodhaa Akbar at 50 crore while the most expensive from the Roshan banner was Krrish at 35 crore but Kites will top this.
